NES Charity Pirate Day is a Swashbuckling Success

Shiver me timbers! The NES Charity Pirate Day went down a treat!

Last week on 27th May, the staff at NES got their parrots and swords at the ready for Pirate Day, a charity event organised by staff members. Austin Baggett, Fiona Wilson, Alex Duff and Jenny Marklew lead the charity drive, organising a whole host of pirate themed games and activities to liven up our Friday!

Staff were encouraged to bring in cakes for a bake sale – rather aptly a rum cake made an appearance! Taking the day to the next level were the Optima and Trade Affordable Warmth teams who built a boat, sails and all!

Games included:

  • “Guess the number of coins in the treasure chest” – won by Ellie Parker in the Marketing team (the coins were subsequently eaten, so there was no chance of a recount!)
  • "Treasure Hunt” – won by Adrian Burr in the Technical team, who was then able to carry on the pirate festivities at home with a nice new bottle of rum!
  • "Pin the parrot on the pirate” – won by Fi Wilson in the Sales team. Mukhthair won the booby prize for missing the pirate completely. Well done, Mukhthair!
  • “Swab the decks” – won by the Optima team who managed to sweep all their coloured balls into their basket the quickest. The most entertaining match was definitely between Sales and Marketing, who mistook the aim of the game and chose to sabotage each other’s teams, which made for a very exciting game that even had some of our learners in stitches.

Thankfully, we had a bank holiday to recover from all the fun!

The day was put together in aid of Willen Hospice in Milton Keynes and Mind UK, a national mental health charity. It was the first of (what we hope will be) many fundraising events that NES will host throughout the year and we are delighted at how successful it was.

We saw some fantastic costumes...

...some amazing department decorations...

...and some not-so-amazing decorations...

But ultimately, we had a truly swash-buckling day, and we are pleased to announce that the staff has raised a grand total of £188 to be split between our chosen charities. Not to mention that the company has agreed to match the funds raised! Splice the mainbrace  that deserves a swig o' rum!

We had a great time and for two very worthy causes.

Watch this space for news of our next charity event!
